My name is Shannon McKerr and I am SO excited to be your child's Second Grade teacher this year! I grew up in New Jersey and am the oldest of five girls. I completed my undergraduate studies at Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH in 2006, earning my B.S in Early Childhood Education with a concentration in Reading. After college I moved to Chicago and attended graduate school at DePaul University. I received my master's degree in 2010 in Bilingual/Bicultural Education, as well as an endorsement to teach English Language Learners (ELL). I taught Kindergarten at St. Veronica School in Cincinnati, and at Old St. Mary's School in Chicago before coming to Lyon School in 2015. This will be my 13th year teaching, and I absolutely LOVE what I do!
I currently live in the city with my husband and my dog, Hank. In my spare time I enjoy
running and exercising, reading, cooking, concerts, and traveling. I have four younger sisters who are my best friends, and truly serve as the inspiration for why I became a teacher in the first place. To me, there is nothing more special than seeing a child achieve
a goal he has been striving towards, or the look of wonder on her face as she explores something new. It is my goal to make this a year of success, growth, and joy for your child,
and I hope our classroom is one where he or she will take risks, make mistakes, and learn!
Please feel free to contact me at any point throughout the year with any questions, concerns, or thoughts you have concerning our classroom learning. Your support and involvement is a central part of your child's achievement in our class!
